In Ethiopia, at the Saint Luke Hospital in Wolisso, was built an innovative hybrid photovoltaic and battery system with a power of 160 kWp and 400 kWh of storage.

Thanks to this type of system, Saint Luke Hospital, a first-class health center for the entire African country, will be able to cope with the frequent electricity blackouts caused by the weak Ethiopian national grid.

For the Hospital, the continuous voltage drops are cause of equipment damage, endangering the lives of patients, who every year exceed 100,000 people. So far, the problem has been faced by using diesel generators which, besides being inefficient, are not sustainable for the Hospital and the environment.

By constantly supplying clean energy to the Hospital, it has been possible to meet St. Luke's primary need without neglecting environmental sustainability.

Through the collaboration of Enel Green Power with the NGO "Doctors with Africa CUAMM", focused on the "Innovability" project, and the construction of the innovative hybrid plant by ESI SpA, today the health center is able to self-produce energy and to manage energy flows in real time, guaranteeing a constant power supply.

The system also provides economic savings for the Hospital, which can be reinvested in health services for the community..
